I’m sorry that my comments offended you, Chris. However, they weren’t meant as an attack on anyone personally. I was just speaking from what I know and have experienced in my life and responded in a defensive and smug manner with, yes, a now regretful placement of values and moral superiority. I grew up hearing many people – including my parents – say things like; “bloody Asians, they all look the same”, and as I grew older I became more and more uncomfortable with this. As a way of easing that, I came to a conclusion that people who made these kinds of comments were extremely ignorant. This ignorance that I am talking about went further than any matters relating to “face blindness”. I also observed in many of these people a regularity of demeaning comments towards to gender, social and religious beliefs, and more. I do understand your irritation though and apologise to you and anyone else who has issue with my comments. However, if you explore them further you might see that I was making some kind of attempt at avoiding a generalisation. In the phrases, “People who suffer from face blindness and do not question it are more than likely extremely ignorant” I am trying to state that I’m taking about those who do not ask questions about their impressions from that which they observe. Al though to then make the claim that there is a high chance of them being extremely ignorant is very unfair. In fact, it probably makes me appear like the extremely ignorant one. This is because if I stop and think about it, I realise that to have unquestioned face blindness does not go hand in hand with being an ignorant person who is incapable of interpersonal stimulation. So I take your annoyance at my comments on board and will try to be more careful in future. Thanks for educating me.

People who suffer from face blindness and do not question it are more than likely extremely ignorant and generally not the type of person who would explore cultural diversity. They exist, but you will not gain much from them in the way of interpersonal stimulation. 

Eli really, I can easily recognize Asian faces, and I have worked all over the world, but when I read your message I get totally irritated by your lifted index finger. Give me a break! If people want to explore cultural diversity, or like to remain more in their own culture, that is their choice. Dont put a value mark on it. I am not the people you address as ignorant in your posting, but I do not like the moral superiority you seem to think you have.

Regarding the photos in the thread... I think they probably purposefully in more or less conscious fashion chose people who look similar so it's no wonder really that they all look alike. That said, I tend to have face blindness for everybody. I recognize people in the context that I'm used to seeing them in but if I see them somewhere else I have trouble.

By the way, the first five people in Daniel's first link look the same to me, and I have trouble telling apart the girls in the second link. I can't blame foreigners for not seeing a difference when not even I can.
