Hmm, if you are looking for a uniquely American style, maybe you could look at Bluegrass music. This is a musical tradition that started in the rural Appalachian Mountains in the eastern US. It is based on accoustic string instruments like guitar, banjo, violin ("fiddle"), mandolin and bass. There is a lot of use of harmony, with the lead singer usually singing in a plaintive, high-pitch. While there are professional Bluegrass groups, a lot of performers are people with day jobs who perform on weekends in bars and churches. As far as I know, there are no Bluegrass performers in any other country.

  Also Zoey, if you want to track the influences,  it might be easier to do if you follow the popular cultural influences   as they occur in the context of Martial Arts, such as Japanese Aikido, Ju-Jitus, and Karate and Kendo

Then you can observe the influences  cross culturally as they occurred in   the popularity of the Chinese   Martial Arts  which transmitted to the West  throught the films of Bruce Lee First, and Jackie Chan second.

 There are Three   strong Asian Influences seen in every American Cities.

(A)   Food   (B)  Martial Arts  (C)  Acupuncture.
