Mermade Legends

Hi,

i have been curious lately about legends. What I would like to know is: does your country have any legends about mermaids? You know, the creatures living in the sea that are half fish and half human. If your country has one of these, please tell me a little about it. Thanks.

We don't have mermaid legend here or maybe I don't know but we always have mermaid drama series.. Currently we have 2 mermaid drama series -____- I don't know why people really like making mermaid drama series and movies since 70's.

Dyesebel is the most famous fictional mermaid here in Philippines.. Many version of drama series and movies has been made about dyesebel... She is half human and half mermaid because her father fell inlove with a human before sometimes it's vice versa.. her mother is the one who fell inlove with a human.. I dont know which one is the original.

Hi,

Hmm. It looks like there aren't as many different myths and legends about mermaids as I thought. Also, I wonder why all of the legends seem to say that the mermaids are evil. It doesn't really matter, but I've always liked the idea of being to live deep in the ocean and on land.

In India, AFAIK we don't have any mermaids in our folklore. We do have hybrids that are sometimes depicted as half-fish. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makara_(Hindu_mythology)

There are no mermaid myths here that I've heard of.

Brazilian mermaids seem similar to what we'd call a siren. A siren is a creature in the form of a beautiful women (but not a mermaid) that attracts sailors to it/her by singing before killing them.
