IELTS (proficiency test)

Hey guys! I have an enquiry about IELTS. I will be taking IELTS next year and I've been thinking to make some quick research about IELTS and all stuffs. Is there someone on this website who have been through the IELTS exam? I'd like to know how it was conducted and how HARD it is, of course. It is because I am required to reach band 6.5 TT__TT . I'm aiming for band 7 but anyways, does anyone have any tips? Pretty please (:

I had the IELTS exam 4 months ago. Got band 8.0 (L8.5, R9.0, W6.0, S7.5). I would recommend few things if you want to prepare well to the exam:

-read a lot without dictionary. Find some popular stuff like Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan, it's easy to read and it has pretty much the same vocabulary as exam;

-find something interesting to listen/watch. Some TV show or Youtube channel will do. I recommend ChessNetwork on Youtube for beginning then move TV shows like Friends or Merlin. Also listen to the radio (ABC or BBC). Do all this without headphones because on the exam they use speakers;

-practice as much as possible the writing part because it's the most difficult part of the exam.

Overall, IELTS isn't so hard if you're prepared. And you have the whole year to prepare :)

I took the IELTS last year, but the result is not good, I will test again in Aug. Hope to get 8:)

My suggestion is focus on listening and reading, writing is even hard for native speaker. Speaking should be practiced continuously by native speakers :)

Hi,

I'm an IELTS trainer/assessor. I recommend using the textbook Cambridge 'New Insight into IELTS' and also doing a practice IELTS exam. It is a difficult exam and you do need to prepare to achieve 7 band score for all sections, you need to be at an upper-intermediate English level.
