Feature Wish on Italki

Hello,

This discussion is for English practice, but I would also like an opinion about a feature I wish this site had. If Italki started offering group classes, would you take them? What about teachers? Would you want to teach small group classes? Of course there would have to be a different link to sign up, and teachers would have to set different prices, but I personally think this would be a good idea. What about the rest of you?

Hello,

I want you all to know that I have been reading your comments. But I have been very busy. I have a question for the gentleman who says that he is already offering group classes: How do you make this work when the site doesn't officially offer them? Do the students sign up under a joint account? Are they usually members of the same family? Any advice on the logistics would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello,

You make some good points. What I am thinking of is small group classes with no more than four or five students. It is true that group classes are sometimes cheaper. But I think this would be helpful for some students who cannot afford one-on-one classes. Another thing I would like to say is that group classes can create more interesting conversations, and sometimes the students are able to help each other. For example, when one student understands a grammar point that another is struggling with. Sometimes having the student help with the explanation is a benefit.

I think group classes are ok when you are starting to learn the language. But, once you learnt the basics and want to improve it, it becames a waste of time, specially if the group is so numerous. For example, I'm attending a 1 hour group class with other 9 participants and it's a sh...  There is always someone who doesn't respond on time because he lost the focus or whatever else, making the others lose their time also. With that number of students is also dificult to make exercises such dialogs, and not to mention all the troubles when there are attendants with different levels.

However, this kind of classes tends to be cheaper

It would be great if it could provide us with free language learning materials.
