Sadia
What do you want to know about the English language/ London/ England?

Tell me a couple of things you have always wanted to know about the English language, or the city of London, or just England in general!

I would love to hear your comments and they would greatly help me in my work

Thanks :)

Hi Bill, I will try my best to answer your questions.

1. I have never really heard of anyone buying a travel card in advance, I would recommend checking the national rail website or transport for london website instead as they should have more realistic prices for travel. But in general, getting around here in the UK (especially in London) is expensive, so I wouldnt be surprised to see such high prices for a travel card.

2.Yes, buying on arrival would be my recommendation, but this requires some queuing if you want to speak to a ticket officer directly about your travel. On the other hand, there are self-service machines, which are generally easy to use.

3. I think it is reasonable to catch the train from Paddington station at 19.30. If you are using the tube to get there, It is wise to invest in an Oyster Card which is the discount travel card used in London. Again, you may have to wait in line at the ticket office to buy one of these.

4. We have had quite a lot of rainfall in the past couple of days; however, today the weather is very warm and sunny. So, seeing as the weather is unpredictable here I think it would be best to take an umbrella!

Hope that helps

Hi Sadia, thank you to provide the chance to ask. I will visit UK at the early of August. Now I'm buying transport tickets and travel pass online. I went to the site http://www.visitbritainshop.com/usa/travel-transport/london-transport/product/london-travelcard.html. But I feel it's too high, almost double of normal price, http://www.londontoolkit.com/briefing/travelcard.htm. Do you think it is necessary to buy travel card in advance? Do you suggest me buying it when arrival?

I will arrive at Heathrow airport at 16:40. Is it reasonable to catch the train to BATH departure at 19:30 at Paddington station?

Any other advices are also welcome, such as how often the rain of London happens; do I need take an umbrella?

Thanks, Bill.
