Those of you who are bilingual, or multilingual, what did you find worked best when learning a new language? Do you believe you have to be totally immersed in the culture? Do you think you have to practice everyday? What tips/strategies would you suggest when learning another language?

Naturally language learning is starts through listening, 2nd reading, these two things make you able to write and speak, All you need an enviorment where peoples can talk to you on regular basis and then you require little homework.

I read a lot in Chinese.  Whenever I have free time I will read a short article or a short story.  This helps to improve my vocabulary.  I also found a mandarin soap I enjoy and I watch an episode once a day.  This helps further enhance my vocabulary ( because it still requires reading) and it helps my listening.  Finally I talk in mandarin whenever I get the opportunity.

I am am now following the same routine with Russian.

I immeresed my self in English. I just read in English and I don't read Arabic. And since then my vocabularies increased significantly. I focused on listening and speaking all the time.
