I learnt Spanish, Portuguese and Italian just by watching TV so I agree with what she says.

I will show you some of the simple songs that are used to teach English in the USA:
Not all of these are in my Notebook Entries, but some are:

The point of this is that long before American Children learn to acquire a large vocabulary, their confidence and ability to pronounce all words is "highly developed". Foreign Students hesitate, and claim shyness about speaking, often because they lack confidence in:
FIRST: the correct pronunciation of many words
and SECOND: the correct making of simple and basic Phrases
(word combinations which go together).

I still remember snatches of the Spanish songs we were taught at school (as well as trabalinguas/tongue twisters!), and I thought it was a great way to learn, so today I've been trying to find some music I like (and have a chance of following!) in Romanian on YouTube.

English is lovely and much easier to learn than other languages, in my opinion.
Feeling the language is definitely a must.
Beyond all of that lesson material of simple "conversational" English is the other element that is frequently missing in modern teaching. That is FEELING.
When one listens to the incomparable power of feeling, expressed in such songs as Anita Baker singing
"Sweet Love," a student discovers one of the mysteries of the English Language; that is its ability to convey powerful feeling through sound.
Anita Baker is not demonstrating any kind of modesty or restraint. All is cast aside as she pours out the true feeling from her heart. This "visceral" element is important to make the study of a language more than a tedious and boring job. Language, combined with musical sound, can be a very inspiring, exciting, and truly joyful activity. Sound opens up nerve channels in the brain and body which are often dismissed when foreign students are taught. Musical Tones are often the key that are overlooked in language exercises.
