Chao Susan. Have you tried listening to youtube videos or movies that are in English but are meant for children? Sometimes they use less complicated vocabulary and speak more slowly when it is meant for children.

There's a very good chance it's because the actors are speaking so fast. Sometimes when we speak English we run 2 or 3 words together and put the emphasis in weird places. So as you read my comment you can understand it - but because of my American accident I might need to slow down to speak outloud with you.

Hope this helps!

Susan:

The process  can be referred to as "developing an ear"  for English (or any language).

It can be developed by doing things like listening to some slow songs that you like.

(Slow at first and faster songs later.)  If you learn  the words to a song, and practice sinking it to yourself, you will develop sound memory that will make you familiar with the sounds of speech that you are hearing.

My Notebook Entries  are full of all kinds of songs that you can use to "develop an ear" for the English language.
