The Advantages and Disadvantages of Learning Languages

I need to improve my writing skills in English. I hope I will able to write some new topics every week ( I hope more than one : )

An essay: The advantages and disadvantages of learning languages abroad compared to learning in your own country.


The world is going be more cosmopolitan. A lot of people travel, work, and live in foreign countries. The knowledge of languages is becoming very important, especially English.
There are many ways to learn languages: take courses in your own country or go abroad. There are good and bad sides to both choices.
Studying at home is very good for people who don't like being away from their friends and family. It is usually cheaper than studying abroad.
The bad thing is that this way is more difficult and slower. There can be sometimes disappointment when the native language speaker is met: they speak faster with a dialect not like a teacher. While studying at home gives a lot of knowledge of language structure and grammar, it is more language research than language learning. There are less or or perhaps no possibilities to talk in real life situations.
Studying abroad can be expensive and not everyone can be away from family and friends. People are different and not all can make conversation easy, especially when their language is not perfect.
The bright side of study abroad is the possibility to listen to and to speak with natives, to have real life situations and not to need an interpreter or someone who could help with translation. The studies abroad give an opportunity to learn to speak like a child. They don't know the grammar: tenses, adjectives etc. they just speak.
Both study methods have good and bad points. If it is possible, I will choose to study abroad. This is a more natural and faster way to learn a foreign language.
