How to explain 'as' in a sentence? He also said that he had not used a non-Apple charging device. Why should '_____' be 'as'? What's the meaning of 'as' in this kind of sentence?

Here, "as" means "like". You can use "as" with an adjective ("as big as a whale" which means "the same size as a whale" or "like the size of a whale" -- e.g. "The car he bought me was as big as a whale") or with a situation as in the example you give and as in this sentence. Replace "as" with "like" and it might make more sense. :)
