Question Hi, there Could you help me with three questions? Please! 1) Does it sound odd to say "They yapped/gossiped the whole day away"?... What about "Cry the sadness away"? 2) Let us say I am at a restaurant and I am paying a bill and I have to pay 60 dollars. Could I say "My bill is 60 dollars" or "My bill costs 60 dollars"... What if I want to ask the waiter about my bill? "How much is the bill?"? What do you say? 3) Let us say my bill is/costs 60 dollars and I want to pay 20 dollars in(in or with cash??) cash and the remainder by card.(by or with card??). Could I say "Can I have 40 charged to my card?" to the waiter? Or would it sound odd? Thank you very much!

1) They yapped the day away sounds a little odd, however, they gossiped the day away doesn't. Yapped isn't really a word often used, perhaps use chatted. "cry the sadness away" sounds very poetic, if that was your intention :) 2) My bill is 60 dollars is the correct way of saying it. You can say "what does my bill come to?" or "how much is the bill?" 3) Can I have 40 charged to my card sounds perfectly fine :) I usually say "Can I pay part cash, part card?" and if they say yes, I'd say "Ok, may I pay 20 by cash and the rest on card please?"
