What is the meaning of this legal Persian phrase? Please don't post that this is not Persian or that it is Arabic. I posted it in Arabic forum and the answers I got was that it is definitely NOT Arabic. With that out of the way, what is the meaning of this Persian legal phrase: متصرف در ملك غير ضامن اجرة المثل زمان تصرف است واگر ساختمانی را تلف كرده ضامن قيمت روز تلف است Looking up a dictionary ضامن یعنی عهده دار تاوان اجرة المثل یعنی اجاره بها که پس از تمام شدن مدت اجاره از روی میزان اجارهً نظایر آن معین میشود I am not sure so I like someone to confirm, explain and expand, but I think what the phrase means is the following: "The squatter on the property is not the same as a tenant that over stays on the property when the rental period ends, and if the squatter has destroyed a part or entire property he is responsible to pay for it at the current value of the property." Thank you for your input.

Yes, this is a legal Persian phrase which is difficult to understand even for Persian speakers :) Your second part of translation is correct. Here is a little modification: The squatter on others' properties is responsible for paying the equivalent rent fee for the duration of squatting, and if the squatter has destroyed a building, he is responsible to pay for it at the current value of the property. This is what I found about اجرت المثل: اگر كسی از مال دیگری منتفع گردد و عین مال باقی باشد و برای مدتی كه منتفع شده، بین طرفین مال الاجاره‌ای معین نشده باشد، آنچه بابت اجرت منافع استیفا شده باید به صاحب مال مزبور بدهد، اجرت المثل نامیده می‌شود،
