Can you explain why it uses だ in this sentence: 健康診断の時、医者に太り過ぎだと言われた。 Thank you very much! I don't know the meaning of だ. Is that because 太り過ぎ is used as a noun?

The "だ" does how to use same as "です". "だ" is more casual.
