a couple of questions from 1 sentence. Sentence: I started to notice I was the only kid sitting out at recess because my back still hurt from where my dad whupped me with his belt buckle. 1. What is the closest synonym for "whupped"? it appears that my spell checker doesn't like it as much. 2. Is it understood from the context that pupils during the recess time enjoy themselves by running/jumping or playing hide and seek maybe and this boy didn't want to participate because his back hurt? 3. About synonyms...if my dad whupped me with his belt buckle, can I say that I have a sore back? Or the term 'sore' is used for describing the medical problems? thx.

1. whipped, beat, hit 2. Recess is usually when kids play, so yes, he couldn't participate b/c most likely, his back was sore. 3. Sore is an informal word describing how his back feels. It's not a medical diagnosis.
