What does the " than " here mean? Dear friends, I have a question about the sentence: Carl also shared my personal suspicion about the nonexistence of souls—but I cannot think of a better reason for hoping we are wrong than the prospect of spending eternity roaming the cosmos in friendship and conversation with thiswonderful soul. What does the " than " here mean? Best wishes Thank you very much! Cathy

Actually, "than" is used to join two parts of a comparison, which is exactly what it does in this sentence.
