may be at stake in Does the writer with "our very humanity may be at stake in keeping human oversight over military conflict" advise that in order to save our humanity we have to keep human oversight over military conflicts and not step toward fully automated wars"? Context: Can we trust a world where images are made and viewed only by machines, which then automatically initiate a predetermined response, without the input of any human? Farocki suggests that we cannot, and that our very humanity may be at stake in keeping human oversight over military conflict, which now can be carried out solely by computers.

In the part where it says "Farocki suggests that we cannot" that means that he suggests that we CANT live by just allowing robots to make all the decisions for us. So to your question, the answer is yes. He is saying it is better to have human oversight then to let computers decide on war for us.
