"Curate" can be a fancy name for "to choose or collect." The person responsible for choosing and buying paintings or other things in a museum is called the "curator." "Curate" is used when the thing being chosen are wonderful, rare, and expensive, and the "curator" is a person with great "taste," great knowledge and judgement of quality.
