Please help me to express something in English The other day, a Japanese person who is taking English lessons online, told me that her lessons have become "lessons" too much. What she means by this is that the lessons have become remote from life... It feels like a classroom. She doesn't get to speak freely, but rather just answer some questions that the teacher asks her and learn grammar. So she asked me what is the best way to express this and I feel like I couldn't help her adequately. I told her she can say the lessons have become too "schoolish", but I feel like this is not the best way to say it. So can you please tell me if there is a word to express this? Thanks in advance! (For those of you who speak Japanese, she said something along the lines of レッスンはレッスンらしくなってきた。It makes sense in Japanese but I'm not sure how to translate it).
