What is the difference between 'der Gast' and 'der Besucher'?

"Der Gast" can be translated to "the guest" and "der Besucher" is "the visitor". Not much of a difference, but you would call people you invite over "Gast" whereas visitors of a place or event etc. you would call "Besucher".
Examples:
Auf meiner Party waren viele Gäste.
Das Museum hat jedes Jahr viele Besucher.
