Hello Linky, "to save own skin" on the other hand is to protect yourself from danger or difficulties, without worrying about other people. It is a bit of a selfish attribute.

'Save someone's skin' is an informal expression meaning 'to save someone from injury, embarrassment, or punishment.' 'I saved my skin by getting the job done on time.' Some people save their own skin by leaving others in an extremely difficult situation: 'To save his own skin, he lied and blamed the accident on his friend.'
