Both are important. By asking a question, you get different ideas about some particular thing or concept. By answering a question, you test your knowledge and see if people liked your answer. In other words, you share your knowledge and thinking with others when answering a question.

They are opposite. If you ask you are interested. If you answer you are interesting. They could be equal, I suppose, in the right situation, but nobody ever thinks about that when the lightning strikes. And it's a lot more interesting to ask, a lot more important, you hang on the answer, you wait, it's urgent, it's not equal. You went to the trouble of asking, it might be a lot of work if you're asking in somebody else's language, or a third language. Answering is allowing yourself to be asked, and it's pretty boring sometimes when people you don't want to be around you are asking you crazy questions in a fashion you don't appreciate. "Hey, baby, want to Buggie in my hotel room?", for example. I don't agree that answering is equal to asking. On the other hand, the answer may save the world. Asking might be the easy part. How will we clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico? That was easy to ask. Answering that is something that isn't interesting or important. It's much more urgent than that.

When you have had the answer the question does no longer exist. Answer is the most important thing, of its question. Question is an important thing, of the exploration of the unknown, for humans.
