I'm Melanie Stevenson Bacchus, a lifelong teacher (and learner) living in Toronto, Canada. I was born and raised in Guyana, the only English-speaking country in South America. I have also lived in Brazil, Thailand, and Canada.
My first love is languages: while English is my native tongue, I can speak Spanish, French, some Portuguese, and a little Thai. The next language I plan to learn is Mandarin.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in French and Spanish, and certificates in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). My TESL certificates qualify me to teach English in Canada and abroad.
I “fell into” teaching right out of university when I was offered a part-time job as a French and Spanish teacher at the local high school. There, I discovered my calling. In the last 25 years, I have successfully helped students to develop and improve their English, French, or Spanish. Further, their overall confidence and self-esteem increased.My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are one hour long and are created based on your needs. An "Everyday English" lesson includes all skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. A "Specialized English" lesson can be conversation or reading/writing.
My teaching approach is student-centered, and I like to give you lots of opportunities to communicate in varied scenarios. I favour real-world tasks and project-based learning: this approach can inspire you to participate more actively and noticeably improve your language skills.My teaching material
