Hello, and welcome!
My name is Jack and I come from the UK. I have over 4 years of teaching English as a second language. I have taught classes in traditional school settings in Japan where I learned to speak Japanese. I started teaching online when I returned to the UK.
Since then, I have been teaching English online to students of all ages and levels. I have taught very young learners their ABCs as well as teaching groups of adults lessons in business English.
During my free time I like to play guitar, computer games and I paint too. My favourite film is The Lord of The Rings Trilogy. I build my own PCs and know how to use windows rather well. I'm learning Linux too.Me as a Teacher
I like to keep the atmosphere friendly and relaxed. The main thing is that you are learning English. Learning about subjects you enjoy or are interested in can be very rewarding. This is particularly true of young learners. I have had very young learners who just did not want to learn English at all, not even saying hello or answering anything. When this is the case, I use fun games and laughter to put them at ease and draw them into using English in a way that is suitable to them. If you are a more advanced learner I can be more critical and help you achieve the best listening, reading, speaking and writing skills that you can. We can work on accent reduction, idioms, grammar and more!My lessons & teaching style
I offer courses and standalone lessons. I can get to know your abilities in a demo lesson or placement test. This will help me design a course around your needs. This can be done with everything from A1 Beginner lessons to young children to IELTS exam prep. We can do general conversation too, feel free to suggest subject materials for the lesson, or I can base them around your hobbies. If you would prefer to learn things one lesson at a time, that's fine too!
All lessons are recorded for quality control purposes. You may be sent each lesson video at your request. This can help you analyse yourself speaking, after the lesson has finished.My teaching material

2016 - 2017
Assistant Language Teacher InteracThis was my first point of entry into ESL. I taught fun, engaging lessons to young learners up to the age of eighteen. I taught large groups, long lessons and smaller groups, shorter lessons. I can teach in a traditional setting as well as online, so I am familiar with the advantages and drawbacks of both. This helps me maximise my online teaching and my knowledge of lesson planning and classroom control were all found here. To this day, I use formulas and games that I created in Japan.
2017 - 2020
Regular Teacher Landi EnglishThis was my first online teaching position, I taught from my home in the UK. I learned how to use online classes more interactive. I quickly figured out that though flashcards still have their place, virtual stickers and filters can be even more engaging. This is where the bulk of my online experience was formed. I know how to teach 1on1 and 1on2 thanks to Landi's format of teaching. I enjoyed teaching these lessons greatly and look forward to teaching many more.

Regular Teacher iTutorGroupThis position exposed me to teaching adults for the first time. I taught business English and Idioms and can now do the same in my own classes. The lessons are also longer here, so I have experience teaching up to 45 minutes online. Teaching higher levels also taught me to take a slightly different approach to my adult lessons. I learned to become more challenging and make corrections on detailed nuances of the language and used more explanation than gestures to help learners understand.

Bachelor's - Bachelor Of Arts (Honours) Humanities with a Music specialism level: 2.1The course encompassed a wide range of the arts. Including: English literature and language, religious studies, history and music. The degree was undertaken online so it familiarised me with Microsoft Office, referencing and essay writing. I studied music history, music theory and recording production. My final essay was on the Stradivari violin, its construction, and a detailed analysis on the frequency responses of each classical stringed instrument.

Intensive TEFL Course The TEFLAcademy 2015During my TEFL studies I took part in a 20 hour intensive in-classroom teaching course. This course taught me how to elicit using props and simple English. The final exam of this lesson was to teach another language to the class. We taught Afrikaans, three phrases:
Wot is dit? What is this?
Dis a apfel? This is an apple.
Gee fir me die apfel. Give me the Apple.
We demonstrated using an apple. My first use of realia. Demonstrating to the class, we taught them how to say these phrases.

TEFL Course 120 Hours The TEFLAcademy 2016I completed my online modules after my intensive class course. I learned how to plan lessons, including my introduction. (This later changed to trial lessons.) I studied and wrote an essay on various methods of teaching, from audiolingual in the 1980s to dogme and everything in between. I learned about CEFR levels and how to plan a course for students. I had to plan lessons for beginner, intermediate and advanced students up to 50 minutes.
