Hello, my name is Amir El Jurdi. I am a Lebanese/Venezuelan citizen who was born in Lebanon and moved to Venezuela three months ago. I have recently graduated from the American University of Beirut (AUB) with a BS in biology. In addition to having Arabic as my native language, I also speak English and Spanish fluently as I have been studying English as a second language since preschool and have been learning Spanish from my Venezuelan father all throughout my childhood and teenage years. I enjoy watching movies, playing with kids, and spending time with family and friends.

Me as a Teacher

During my high school years, I discovered my teaching potential when helping my classmates understand lectures that they had missed or failed to comprehend. Later on, I became a private tutor and gave one-on-one tutoring lessons in the English language along with some other school subjects. During my college years, I worked at the “Green Space Educational Institute” in Lebanon teaching English and helping students with their homework in other school subjects as well. I enjoy teaching in itself as well as testing the affectivity of new teaching methods. Moreover, I love helping students comprehend new topics and being part of a student’s journey to learning a new language.

My lessons & teaching style

Throughout the years I have experimented with a variety of teaching methods. In terms of material, I tend to use PowerPoint slides to display sample conversations taking place between two native English speakers in addition to displaying examples of grammatical structure, spelling, and so on. Moving on to my teaching style, I always move forward step-by-step with my students asking them for any questions that they might have after explaining a new concept and then quizzing them on it. Most importantly, I always try to make it clear to my students in our introductory lecture that my goal is to help them reach the goals they have behind learning this new language in an enjoyable manner.
