About Me

My name is Michelle and I am a law student from Zimbabwe. I was raised bilingual and speak English fluently as one my two native languages with a mostly neutral accent with slight British influences. I enjoy meeting people of different cultures and travel whenever the opportunity is presented to me. I’ve been priviledged to visit 10 countries across 3 continents. This of course will be a conversation piece with the diverse array of students that use iTalki as a learning platform. Additionally, when I can physically travel my bookworm tendencies allow me to travel vicariously. Through books I’ve lived in so many people’s imaginations and can convert anyone into a book lover!

Me as a Teacher

I have previous teaching experience as a high school English and Business teacher as well as a private tutor. I had the privilege of having teachers that believed in my capacity to achieve anything I set my mind to and my academic ability was never questioned. This confidence they ingrained in me has translated to success my academics as well as happiness in other areas of my life. I believe that every student is capable of successfully achieving whatever the set their mind to. My job as a teacher is to not only impart information but also to instill confidence. What good would it do to teach a student how to fluently speak English, if they never have the confidence to actually speak it?

My lessons & teaching style

My teachings will be conversational. Teaching aides such as presentations, videos and different texts that I will supply, will be used as conversation pieces. I will then gently correct any grammatical and pronunciation errors the student makes in an effort to better their English speaking. Additionally, the student will be given texts of different reading levels to read out loud and submit on a private SoundCloud room. This will serve to correct their pronunciation, teach them how to decipher punctuation as well as allow them to gain confidence in speaking English aloud with no immediate fear of criticism as they will record the audios alone.
