Hello! My name is Julia and I would love to help you practice your English! I was born and raised in the state of New York and have lived in Washington D.C., Boston, Santiago, Chile, and Galway, Ireland. At University, I studied American Studies, Film, and Creative Writing, so I'm passionate about all things relating to American culture. I'd love to chat with you about movies, television, books, or music. When I'm not teaching English, I enjoy hiking, yoga, and a good cup of tea.

Me as a Teacher

I'm a TEFL-certified English language teacher with experience in private tutoring and teaching at a University in Santiago, Chile. I understand how intimidating it can be to practice a new language -- I've been studying Spanish for many years and still hesitate to speak it. My goal is to provide an easy-going conversation space where you feel comfortable speaking and listening in English. The most effective way for you to improve your confidence in English is for you to speak it, so expect to be talking for most of the class! We can use articles, videos, music, and more as a basis for our conversation!

My lessons & teaching style

In our first lesson, we'll spend some time getting to know one another and outlining your goals and objectives for improving your English. Then, we'll spend the rest of the class in conversation that can help you reach your goals. I'm happy to assign homework and develop conversation topics to help you reach your short and long-term goals, or if you prefer, we can just talk like we're meeting for coffee!
