About Me

Hi! My name is Merel, I’m 25 years old and based in Mexico City. I was born in the Netherlands, and I’m a bilingual speaker of English. I attended English bilingual schools while growing up, and I speak with an American accent. I have a Master’s degree in English Comparative Literature. Growing up in different countries, I was thrown into the deep end and forced to learn new languages from a young age. I know that learning a new language can be daunting, but I also believe that they are amazing gateways to new cultural experiences and ways of perceiving the world. I admire anyone who is trying to expand their worldview, and I’m happy to dedicate myself to helping you do so confidently.

Me as a Teacher

I’m a patient and committed teacher, who values your comfort and confidence above all. My golden rule when it comes to learning new languages, is to not let fear or self-doubt keep you from trying. The most important part is to take the plunge and to start speaking, even if that means making mistakes. In my class, you will find a safe space to make mistakes as well as progress. I strive to work with diligence, enthusiasm, and empathy, to keep you consistently practicing and having fun while doing so.

I’m happy to offer a trial class to discuss your personal needs, level, and goals. My conversational classes can help you put your knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation into practice. I can also offer tailored classes with complementary study material to help you improve your reading, writing, grammar or pronunciation where needed. Together, we can make sure that you can accurately express yourself according to your goals - whether it’s making dinner plans with a friend, excelling at a job interview, expressing your opinion, or ordering food at a restaurant.
