Welcome! My name is Africa! I currently live in New Jersey and am a certified professional English Teacher! My hobbies are cooking and crocheting but I absolutely love music. Specifically western classical music and opera! My musical background has given me the opportunities to be exposed to many languages so I’ve grown to enjoy language learning.

Me as a Teacher

I earned a TEFL diploma to teach English as a foreign language. I have also earned a bachelor's degree in Vocal Performing Arts. Because of my vocal music background, I’ve been exposed to many languages and accents which is useful for those who want to work on their speaking skills! I am also experienced in teaching however I have taught primarily music in the past. Teaching music has made me a patient and interactive teacher.

My lessons & teaching style

My lessons are structured to encourage practice in areas and things that interest you. I like to open the lesson with conversation and vocabulary, introduce the main topic with activity, and close to the lesson with a review. However, I can adapt to whatever lesson structure you prefer. I make the materials for my lessons to ensure that you can have access to materials made around your needs and self-study. I also gather authentic materials so you may be exposed to real-world situations and media. Though I don't assign homework regularly, if requested, I am more than happy to assign homework. I assign short assignments that focus on skills you find most difficult.
