About Me

As an experienced and well-qualified native ESL teacher from Sydney, Australia, I've taught over 20,000 students of all ages and levels over the last 7 years.
I've worked with some of world's largest educational groups, both in class and online, and for some Chinese Universities, currently.
Prior to teaching, I had an extensive 20 year plus career as an Architect and Business Development Manager.
Since 2017, I have been living in Asia with my family and three children and we are building our third home that I designed. We also love our pets and have a koi pond with hundreds of fish! Additionally, having a large family helps make me a better teacher!Me as a Teacher
That is probably best left to be described by my students, and they say that I am:
- very passionate
- patient and caring
- responsible and very diligent
- that my classes are relaxed and humorous
- some even say kinder things such as "I'm the best teacher" they have come across
Of course, there is the right teacher for all students, and sometimes it takes time to find the right fit. In the end, it is deeply inspiring to see students grow and develop better English skills and confidence.My lessons & teaching style
My goal is to tailor the lesson to a student's needs and in any way that can benefit their growth in a relaxed, comfortable and often humorous environment.
Often, I employ a modern "communicative" style of teaching that is practical and applicable to real-life context that is both structured and involves relevant free-talk to encourage some deeper development.
However, that is all dependent on a student's individual needs and I vary it accordingly.
Frequently, I find it useful employ a multitude of multi-media using videos, music, news media, pdfs, power point presentations and even sing occasionally!My teaching material

Philip is definitely the best English teacher I have met. He is fun and knowledgable. All his lessons and materials are well prepared and customised for students' need. He is not only very spontaneous and open to any topics you are interested in, but also can give you an impressive and fun lesson that I find very helpful. Some advice he gives is based on his own professional or business experience, which is very insightful and beneficial.
