Melanie Smart

Melanie is a truly brilliant communicator who has empathy for her students. I engaged her so that she could advise me on the quality of the literature I am producing and discuss and critically evaluate passages drawn from an assortment of classical literary sources. I am a native user of English myself and can attest that she is one of the most suitable teachers prospective students of English as a second or foreign language could ever hope to engage. Her humility and patience shine right through her conversations and manifest the deep respect she has for all who engage her services. She is one of the few teachers of English here who are as empathetic as they are proficient. She will never be condescending to you or come across as supercilious. She is thoroughly familiar with the nuances of standard British usage. As I said, I never engaged her to teach me English (I definitely do not need to be taught it) but rather to provide a critical evaluation of complex literary texts.

Melanie is a great teacher, friendly, and very helpful. She tailored the lesson based on my needs and gave great explanations for grammar and vocabulary.
