About Me

Hello! My name is Michael, from Nairobi, Kenya. I am a native Swahili speaker who also speaks fluent English. I have spoken Swahili all my life since it is the national language of Kenya, and I would love to teach you how to speak it too! Fun fact about me, I am a self-taught water color artist and 3D animator with a background in tech. You can already tell that I love learning new things, even complex ones. My can-do attitude makes me approach every problem as a challenge and I can make you just as confident in learning, speaking and writing Swahili. You can do it, trust me!

Me as a Teacher

I have been teaching in Swahili each week for several years now. I use Swahili as my primary language when teaching mixed groups about different themes each week. This experience has taught me how to understand the needs of my audience and to change my style according to their response. I would like to use my expertise to help you learn and improve your Swahili. Among my qualities, is that I am calm and I understand that learning a new language can be frustrating. My goal is to accompany you in your journey of learning Swahili, to re-assure you, to challenge you and to help you master the language.

My lessons & teaching style

I have a very easy-going teaching style that is less of a curriculum and more of a personal study with my students based on their needs. I would like Swahili to be fun for you to learn, so I set simple goals for each lesson which are small milestones. Each time you cross a milestone, you will feel a sense of achievement and you will make steady progress in your Swahili language skills. I use illustrations, images, audio, on-screen writing, slide-shows and short pdf documents. I try not to overwhelm my students and I always teach according to your level of Swahili and according to your goal of learning the language.
