About Me

I am Janet, a Filipina. I have been teaching high school for 25 years, using English as my medium of instruction and I have lived in the US for a year as a teacher. I have also lived in Switzerland for a year and for 3 years in Italy as a student. I love music, art, travelling, among others. I have visited at least 13 countries as a tourist. I have published a book and I have written articles for teacher magazines. I have a Masters degree in Oriental Religions and Cultures. Filipino is my native language. Ito ang salitang ginagamit ko sa pakikipag-usap. Invece, ho imparato parlare in Italiano quando ho vissuto e studiato Religione e Scienze Sociali a Firenze in Italia per 3 anni.

Me as a Teacher

In my 25 years of teaching, I know how to engage my students by using different strategies such as visual thinking routines and brain-based learning. Furthermore, activities are not only used to make learning fun, but I process the output from the activities so as to develop reflection, creativity and critical thinking. My students appreciate me as an encouraging, positive, lively and considerate teacher. I look forward to the time when my students become very confident in speaking the language by themselves.

My lessons & teaching style

Having travelled and lived in different countries, I have experienced that the best way to learn a language is through conversation. My students and I can talk about interesting topics such as culture, travel, music, art, nature, emotional and spiritual intelligences, and others. I also use Youtube Videos, interesting articles and music in my lessons. I start by assessing the level of my students, to know if I need to start at the very basic. Instead, the more advanced students will be treated at their level. My goal is to help my students be very confident in speaking English or Filipino.
