About Me

My name is Joyce. I was born and raised in Kenya, East Africa. Currently I live in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. I have a bachelor's degree in Economics and Finance with seven years working experience in the financial sector. I have also worked as a part time teacher both onsite and online, usually teaching Mathematics, English and Swahili. I enjoy cooking, singing, dancing and spending time with my family. I speak English and Swahili fluently which are the national languages in my country, Kenya. I also speak Duruma and Giriama fluently which are my ethnic languages, my dad being Duruma and my mom, Giriama.

Me as a Teacher

I started my teaching journey after Highschool. After my KCSE exams, I went back to my former primary school and volunteered as a Mathematics, English and Kiswahili teacher. Even after joining the University, I would always go back to teach during holidays. Later, I have been doing teaching as a part time job for nearly 10 years now. I have done both onsite and online teaching, specializing in English and Swahili. I have had students from different parts of the world hence the opportunity to interact with different cultures. I have taught students from Canada, UK, China, South Africa, Turkey, and Europe.

My lessons & teaching style

I usually encourage my students to start by booking a trial lesson. During the trial lesson, I get to determine the student's language level. This helps me to get a better understanding of the student and hence know where to start from in the next lessons. My teachings strategy is highly interactive. I usually ensure a friendly environment where the student can freely talk and hold conversations through which one gets to practice the language and become an excellent speaker and writer in Swahili.
