My name is Gabriel. I'm a Brazilian lawyer who loves philosophy, classical literature and has been studying Latin for 8 years now. In 2018, I studyed Latin syntax with Márcio Luiz Moitinha, who has a Phd in Latin literature, is a Latin grammarian, and currently is a professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). I've published a paper about Virgil's third Eclogue in the Brazilian scholarly journal Philologus, and I’ve also published a translation of the same poet's second Eclogue into Portuguese as a book, part of a collection of translations of his Eclogues. Presently, I also have a youtube channel, Sermo Multifarius, where I talk about a variety of subjects entirely in Latin.

Me as a Teacher

I have experience teaching Brazilian and foreign students from different levels. Though the basic material are the books Familia Romana, Roma Aeterna and Exercitia Latina, I always try to addapt the lessons to the student’s interests by bringing in, if possible, understandable Latin texts and videos in Latin more related to their particular interests, so that, this way. the student will be more motivated to engage in conversation and in the reading of Latin texts.

My lessons & teaching style

The method used by me is the Natural Aproach or Direct Method. We'll focus on conversation. The idea is that the student will interact with me in Latin, from day one. In order to achieve that, I will provide him with a series of simple Latin words, expressions and sentences that will allow him to present himself, ask me to stop, repeat and explain the meaning of a certain word. We'll go through the chapter of the books Familia Romana and Roma Aeterna. These books contain the fundamental Latin vocabulary and grammar structures, which will be gradually presented to the student in various levels of difficulty. Grammar will not be neglected; and using the vernacular will happen whenever needed.
