I was born in New Zealand and spent the first years of my life there. At the age of 6, I moved to the Netherlands, where I learned Dutch. I can still vividly recall how eager I was to learn this new language, even though it wasn't always easy. This experience contributes to my belief that I can make a good coach; I can empathize with the effort required to learn a new language and am aware of the pitfalls and the learning curve.
During the final year of my studies, I relocated to England, where I lived and worked as a consultant for three years. Afterward, I moved to South Africa, where I also lived and worked as a consultant for three years.
Me as a Teacher
I'm a dedicated tutor with a passion for helping students succeed. Having supported high school students through their academic challenges, I now assist newcomers in the Netherlands with learning conversational Dutch. Patience is my cornerstone as I guide my students to gain confidence. Together, we build not just language skills but also the resilience and determination needed for success in their new environment.
My lessons & teaching style
I enjoy collaborating with the student to determine the best teaching method and structure. For example, if you have an upcoming test or exam, we will start with a practice test and focus on your areas for improvement. If you'd like to enhance your speaking skills (in a personal or business context), we'll begin with a conversation and together determine the key areas of focus and goals. If you're an active person, we can even go for a walk during the lesson. If you learn better by writing things down, we'll bring out a writing notebook. Whether you prefer a short 30-minute lesson or prefer working in a longer 2-hour block, both options are possible.
