My name is Anna and I’m an English, Mandarin and Polish teacher. I have over 10 years’ experience teaching non-native speakers at universities, language schools, private companies and as a tutor in the UK, China and Poland. Among my teaching qualifications are CELTA (Grade A) and a master’s degree in Teaching Mandarin Chinese as a Second Language. I’m currently pursuing a PhD in Linguistics. I’ve attended many INSET workshops and academic ELT conferences.
I've always loved learning languages (incl. mastering my mother tongue), so I'm extremely happy to have been able to turn this passion into my profession.Me as a Teacher
To enhance my students’ motivation, I often adapt authentic materials (Internet clips, magazine articles, podcasts, book excerpts, etc.) to suit their individual needs. That’s why, before we start our cooperation, I'll want to learn more about you and your needs: I’m going to assess your level and ask about your learning goals, preferred learning styles and more general interests and hobbies.My lessons & teaching style
My lessons differ depending on students' needs and learning preferences. If a student wants to improve their speaking and listening (which most of them do), I like to give them a short Internet clip (or a longer one if they're more advanced) as homework, preferably with subtitles and related to their interests and/or the topic of the lesson. Watching clips between lessons gives plenty of time to practise understanding different accents and to look up new words, which could be handy when discussing the clip in our meetings. If a student is preparing for an exam, I tend to rely on textbooks and give extra explanation and practice opportunities when needed.My teaching material
