I was born in Athens by Greek parents. My mother raised me with love and my father imbued me with values. They both shared a common love for the Greek language and Greek history. As a child I was lucky enough to travel with my parents to all corners of Greece and learn about the history of our homeland. On all our travels we used to play word games and have deep conversations. We were one of those families in which parents talk to their children. Now that I am an adult and I am living my own life, I realize more and more that the love my parents instilled in me for our language is something that will follow me for a lifetime and will define my existence.
Me as a Teacher
The idea of teaching someone something has always excited me. At 18, I was the first of my friends to get a driver's license. This resulted in them asking me to help them learn how to drive. Of course I offered to help them. When they finally got their license as well, there were more than a few who told me that I was more helpful than their driving instructor. They said my calmness gave them a sense of security. From then on, whenever I was called upon to explain or teach someone something I tried to teach it the way I would want to be taught. My most recent experience was in a post graduate program I attended in which I gave several lectures in front of fellow students and professors.
My lessons & teaching style
What characterizes me is modesty, calmness and patience. An important factor of the lessons I will give will be slow, steady and clear speech. I firmly believe that the biggest mistake a person can make is to forget about the person he is talking to and not care whether they understand or not. Many times we tend to forget that our interlocutor or listener is not on the same level as we are. But the essence is in the communication and not in the demonstration of knowledge or skills. For this reason the one thing I promise to do is to understand the needs of my interlocutor and adjust the level and difficulty of my speech according to their requests and abilities.
