Hi! I'm Sean, an English teacher from the UK with over 7 years of experience. I am from Newcastle in northeast England and studied German and Russian at the University of Bath. After graduating I moved to Beijing where I lived for almost five years. I have lived in London since 2022 and currently work at a German political foundation. In my free time I offer English classes to students in mainland China. My hobbies are learning Chinese, reading about history, cooking, and hiking.Me as a Teacher
I offer a variety of lesson types in online formats. My most popular format with my current students is a textbook lesson using the Pearson Speakout materials. I also teach IELTS for both General and Academic Purposes as well as grammar and culture classes. I have spent considerable time developing and teaching world history lessons in English. Students learn about key events in modern history and practice reading and vocabulary while doing so. I also teach Business English with a focus on cultural awareness and modern trends in international business.My lessons & teaching style
First and foremost, I offer a relaxed environment in which to learn. I believe that learning a language is a natural process and cannot be taught in a rigid manner, which I find many of my students in mainland China are used to. Instead, I ease students into my lessons by having an informal chat about their interests and lives. I find this develops a rapport very quickly, which I use to encourage students in future lessons. Most importantly, my classes motivate students to share opinions as much as possible. In my classes, you will hear me ask 'why?' a lot!My teaching material
