I am CELTA qualified, and a native British English speaker. I have always enjoyed learning languages – I studied French language at university, and then spent time living and working in France. I grew up in a musical family, and have a good ear for when pronunciation or rhythm of speaking sounds natural.
I am currently learning Italian online, and so am actively involved in the process of language acquisition, and this helps to inform my teaching.
My previous working life has been leading cooking groups of adults with various disabilities, helping them to gain cooking and life skills and increased self confidence. I have also taught yoga, and enjoy keeping fit and healthy.Me as a Teacher
My approach is friendly and informal, yet considered and professional. I am organised and prepared. We always begin with some conversation, and then bring the focus to other aspects of language covering grammar, pronunciation, listening, vocabulary, reading and writing. We will focus on areas that need attention, as well as anything that you specifically want to work on.My lessons & teaching style
The focus of the lessons will be led by your needs – what your aims and objectives are in working on your English. I will help you identify what areas need work, and will find and devise exercises to use and practise these.
The first part of each lesson will be conversation, and then we will move towards work on a particular language point, and I will give you opportunities to practise it.
If it suits you, we can also include a bit of homework – this could be reading a text for discussion in the next lesson, or it could be to do an exercise to consolidate a language point we have worked on in class.My teaching material

Workshop LeaderI was leading a group of adults with a range of disabilities cooking. The emphasis was on increasing their self confidence and general life skills. I learned a great deal about different learning styles, and how important it is for people to feel accepted and comfortable for effective learning to take place. I also became practiced at breaking down tasks into smaller steps. During my CELTA teaching experience I found this helped in my relating and connecting with students.
2016 - 2016
VolunteerI returned to this organisation (where I used to lead the cooking workshops) in order to volunteer in one of the artistic workshops. This involved helping group members, who had various disabilities, with their own art projects. There was often a need to decipher unclear speech, as well as adjust my own speech (speed, volume, complexity). It was important to connect with each person and help them feel comfortable and confident, and this is an important basis for any kind of learning.
