My name is Eva, a native born Swahili and Dholuo teacher from the beautiful country of Kenya with several years of online teaching experience. I love to travel, and to play my violin. I speak English, Swahili, and Dholuo fluently and, Kenya Sign Language and French at intermediate levels. This greatly positions me as I perfectly understand what goes into learning a new language and how to make that process as exciting, practical, and useful for my potential student. I am excited to share my Swahili and Luo language skills with italki's learners.
Me as a Teacher
I specialize in the basics of Swahili and Dholuo, Swahili and Dholuo conversation practice, and Swahili and Dholuo sentence construction. I consider myself very empathetic and patient, skills that are key when it comes to teaching a new language or anything else for that matter. As a YouTuber whose channel is largely focused in sharing tips and hacks of remote working and making money online, I have over time honed my confidence, teaching and conversation skills that will definitely come handy as an italki community tutor. I have also gained experience in multitasking online and also teaching various skills and subjects which is very handy when it comes to teaching a new language virtually.
My lessons & teaching style
My goal is to have you speaking Swahili, however little, because during class we focus more on talking than note taking.
My lessons and teaching style:
- practical conversations with me
- promptly correcting you in a very friendly manner to help you improve without destroying your self esteem,
- explanations to new words and vocabulary introduced during each session
-Swahili / Luo (depends on language I teach you) video recording of classes conducted over Skype if student up for it.
-evaluation of learner's progress on a weekly basis
-critical and well-structured homework tailored to learner's level
- right pronunciation and simple tips to make learning faster, more fun, and comfortable

Wow!! Eva is amazing!! She is energetic, friendly, and works with my personal style of learning. When she speaks, she supports learning with typed phrases as we go. I learned so much in just one short lesson!

Eva taught me a lot of new vocabulary about weddings and new grammar so that I could start making longer sentences : )
Thank you Eva for your effort and patience !!

Eva is an excellent teacher who was helpful in sharing natural Swahili expressions as well as useful cultural information. I can't wait to book her lessons in the future!

Today Eva introduced me to the Swahili noun classes. It helped me a lot understand how nouns, verbs and adjectives change. I also liked our conversation about travelling :-)
