About Me

I am a 25 year old British citizen, living in South Africa, with a South African accent. I have a bachelor degree in sports science where I did english studies for two years; I have diplomas in nutrition and entrepreneurship and am currently doing a diploma in food science; and I got 86% for my TESOL certificate which allows me to teach English as a second language. I have 4 years experience teaching English and 9 years experience working with children from the age of 18 months old, up to 18 years old, as a sports coach. I've been the manager of a retail business for 4 years. I enjoy teaching, reading, mountaineering and talking about fitness, nutrition and different cultures and countries.

Me as a Teacher

I'm energetic, patient, well-spoken and friendly and am well-liked by the children and students that I teach, which allows me to connect with them and promote engagement and learning. I do not teach children on iTalki. In the past I've taught children between the ages of 4-18 but I have also taught students up to 60 years old and business professionals or students studying complex degrees. I prepare well in advance for every lesson (if possible) and have pre-planned lessons to provide quickly if required. I like to give a small amount of homework if possible and like to provide notes during the lesson for corrections.

My lessons & teaching style

I very much teach depending on the student as each student learns in a specific way. I try to make the lessons as enjoyable as possible as a student will not learn if they feel overwhelmed or pressured and then provide them with the correct materials depending on the appropriate teaching style. I like to ensure the students understand English rules by constantly going back to previous questions and asking or stating them in different ways to make sure the rule has been learned rather than an answer simply parroted. For children, I have props and fun pictures to keep them entertained and for adults, I have lots of different source materials like news articles or interview and exam questions.
