こんにちは、日本語講師のるみこです。
今日は２０２２年５月１８日、水曜日ですので文法についてお話しします。
先日、ある生徒さんから質問をいただきました。
どんな質問かと言いますと、
「先生、『噛む（かむ）』と『齧る（かじる）』は何が違いますか？」　です。
みなさん違いがわかりますか？
「よく噛んで食べましょう。」　とか、「クッキーをちょっと齧った」なんて時に使いますね。
どちらも口に入れて歯で挟んで食べるという点に関しては同じようですが、では違いはどこでしょう・・・？
まず「噛む（かむ）」からご説明しますね。
「噛む（かむ）」はそのものを口の中に入れて、歯ではさむこと。はさむだけの時もありますが、はさんでくだく（ちいさくする）こともあります。
・ガムをかむ
・ネコにかまれた。
・ごはんは良くかんで食べなさい
なんて使い方をします。

一方「齧る（かじる）」の方は歯を使って削り取るイメージです。そのもの全部を口に入れているのではなく、一部を歯で削り取ります。くだものなどを食べるときによくつかいます。
・リンゴをかじる
・おせんべいをちょっとだけかじった
・リスがドングリをかじっている。
「まるかじり」なんて言い方もあります。
これは果物や、野菜を切らずにそのまま食べることを言います。

「齧る（かじる）」は全部ではなく、少しだけ削り取ることから、なにかを少しだけ経験（けいけん）したばあいや、少しだけやったことがあるときにもつかいます。
・カブキを少しかじったことがある（カブキの勉強かカブキの稽古（けいこ）を少ししたことがある）
・アラビア語をかじったことがある（アラビア語の勉強を少ししたことがある）
などです。「経験」なので食べ物ではなく使います。

以上「噛む（かむ）」と「齧る（かじる）」について違いを説明しましたが、しっかりと違うわけではありません。
「かむ」も「かじる」も両方（りょうほう）つかうときもあります。
また方言（ほうげん）によってもちがいます。
たとえば、オリンピックで金メダルをとった選手（せんしゅ）が金メダルを口に入れた時、「金メダルをかんだ」とも「金メダルをかじった」とも言います。

でも「かむ」はチューインガムのイメージ、全部を口に入れて歯でモグモグとしている感じ。
「かじる」はリスのイメージ、一部を歯で削り取っている感じでおぼえてください。

A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.

The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain.

Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.

"What a fool I am," he said. "Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for."

And off he walked very, very scornfully.

There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.
