We know we should appreciate people more often but do we know how to acknowledge them and why is it even so important? 

In a conversation when you acknowledge people, they feel heard and valued. They become more open-minded even if you are opposing their beliefs. It’s because, through your acknowledgment of their ideas, they know that you have been listening and you understand where they are coming from. If you want to do business with people or maintain a good relationship with them, without learning how to acknowledge people, you will get nowhere.

Acknowledging is easy.

Just paraphrase what they said and follow up with a relevant question or your opinion. Paraphrasing proves that you understand them since you express their ideas using your own words. 

During negotiations or discussions even if you disagree with people, you can make them hear you out by disagreeing politely or by partially disagreeing with them. A strong disagreement shows that you are unwilling to talk. This makes the negotiation take a negative turn and go downhill. 

So, disagree politely and follow up with relevant questions to show that you are interested in learning more about them. 

What you do is often reciprocated. When you listen, they listen. When you show interest in people, they will show interest in you. When you acknowledge them, they will acknowledge your work, ideas, and suggestions.

Acknowledge people. Have more discussions and not arguments.

こんにちは～！マルハバ！サウジの日本語の先生、佳子です。みなさん、お元気ですかー？

さて今日は、ずーっと話してみたかった国際結婚について話してみようかなと思います。 
私はサウジ人の夫と結婚しているんですけど、よく『国際結婚って大変じゃないですか？』って聞かれるんですよね。
うーん……まあ、大変なことはあります（笑）。でも、日本人同士の結婚より大変なのかって言われると、どうなんでしょうね。
今日は、私自身の経験から、国際結婚で大変だったこととか、逆によかったことについて話してみたいと思います。
【Part2】
まず、国際結婚で一番大変だったことは、間違いなく結婚手続きです。とくにサウジ側の結婚手続きですね。
私たちが結婚手続きを始めた当時、サウジ人が外国人と結婚する場合はいろいろな条件があって、手続きにも結構時間がかかったんです。 しかも、こういう条件って、ころころ変わるんですよね。
私の周りにも、サウジ人の旦那さんがいる日本人の友達や外国人と結婚しているサウジ人が何人かいるんですけど、みんな1年から3年ぐらいかかっています。長いですよね。私たちは、日本側、サウジ側どちらも結婚手続きが必要だったというのと、コロナの時期も挟んだので、なんと約4年かかりました。4年ですよ！本当に終わりが見えなくて、苦しい時期もありました。でも、サウジ側で結婚が認められた時の喜びは、大学入試で受かった時と同じくらいか、それ以上に嬉しかった気がします。
まあ、手続きの話をすると本当に長くなるので、ここでは割愛しますね。「割愛する」っていうのは、本当は話したいんだけど、長くなっちゃうので、ここでは省略する、という意味です。 
他に国際結婚して大変だなと思うことは、私たちの場合、「言語の壁」ですね。私たち夫婦の共通言語は英語なんですけど、私の英語は中上級って感じで、夫の英語は上級かな。普段はあんまり問題ないんだけど、喧嘩のときとか、絶対勝てないです。日本にいるとき、時々喧嘩してて、うまく自分の言いたいことが伝わらなくて、余計にいらいらしていました。
国際カップルの皆さんはどうですか？コミュニケーションの問題はありますか？
あと、日本に帰国することも私たちにとって結構難しいですね。
 サウジは日本から遠いので、時間もお金もかかります。私の実家には3人で泊まれないので、ホテルも必要だし、毎年帰国するのは正直難しいんですよねー。
実は、去年の夏も今年の春も帰国する予定だったんですけど、どちらもいろいろあってキャンセルになってしまって、3年半以上帰国できていないんです。さすがに日本が恋しいです。次の春こそは帰国したいなと思っています。

わたしは、漢字をすぐに忘れます。I forget Kanji easily.
みなさんは、カタカナはどうですか。How was katakana?
カタカナが書けない。漢字が書けない。大丈夫ですか。I can't write katakana. I can't write kanji. Are you OK?
テストがあります。大変です。勉強しなければなりません。A exam is coming soon. It might be hard. You have to study.

テストってなんのテストですか。What’s kind of the test are you going to take? 
JLPTのテストです。テストを受けなければなりません。The test is JLPT which I have to take.
今年（ことし）は、N４に合格しなければなりません。This year, I have to pass N4.
来年（らいねん）は、N2に合格しなければなりません。がんばらなければなりません。Next year, I have to pass N2. I have to do my best.
でも、N1に合格しなくてもいいです。But I don't have to pass N1.

みなさんは、あさ　何時（なんじ）に起（お）きますか。What time do you get up in the morning?
わたしは、あさ5時半（じはん）に起きます。早（はや）いです。朝、早く起きなければなりません。I get up at 5:30 in the morning. That's early. I have to get up early in the morning.

お弁当（べんとう）を作らなければなりません。朝（あさ）ごはんを作（つく）らなければなりません。I have to make my lunch for my son. I have to make breakfast for my family.
日曜日（にちようび）はお弁当を作らなくてもいいです。I don't have to make lunch on Sundays.
息子（むすこ）は、学校（がっこう）へ行（い）かなければなりません。My son has to go to school.
7時（じ）に家（うち）を出（で）なければなりません。He must leave home at 7:00 a.m.
8時に学校（がっこう）に着（つ）かなければなりません。He must arrive at school at 8:00 a.m.
