PHIL: What time is that soccer game on? I thought it started 
at noon.
JACK: We must have had the wrong time. Oh, well … soccer’s not my 
favorite sport anyway. I much prefer basketball.
PHIL: Oh, really? I thought your favorite sport was tennis! I’m a big
fan of basketball, too.
JACK: How about a game sometime?
PHIL: Sure thing! Why don’t we go shoot some hoops now since the 
soccer game isn’t on?
JACK: Excellent idea. Let’s go.



LANGUAGE NOTES
• What time is that soccer game on? means “When does the soccer game start?” 
“What time” plus something plus “on” is a common expression used to ask about the 
start time of a TV show or a movie.
• I much prefer basketball here means “I like basketball a lot more than soccer.” Notice 
how “much” is stressed to show that the speaker really likes basketball.
• Oh, really? Notice the rising intonation on “really.” This shows that the speaker is 
surprised. He thought that Jack liked tennis the best.
• I’m a big fan of basketball is a way of saying “I like basketball very much” (“to be a 
fan of” is a casual expression used to describe something you really like).
• How about a game here means “Let’s play a basketball game.”
• Sure thing! This is a casual expression used to mean “OK.”
• Shoot some hoops means to play an informal game of basketball. This is a casual 
expression used between friends

Episode 9 :  I'll look into it

先週ドイツに来てから初めて寿司を作りました。
大家さんのお孫さんが寿司を作ったというのを聞いて、私も作ってみようと思ったことがきっかけでした。
寿司を作るには魚などの具材、すし飯、のりが必要です。
のりとお米、寿司飯（すしめし）を作るのに必要な米のお酢は近くのスーパーでも売っていました。
しかし、私が住んでいるドイツの田舎町では生の魚がほとんど手に入りません。
近くのスーパーにカニかまぼこがあったので、それとアボガドを使い、カリフォルニアロールをつくることにしました。
まず、すし飯を用意しました。ご飯を炊くにも私の家には炊飯器がないので、鍋で炊かなければなりません。また、寿司飯には専用のお酢が必要です。日本なら寿司酢(すしず)という商品が売っていますが、ドイツでは砂糖を加えて自分で作らないといけません。

面倒なことが多かったのですが、上手くできました。
寿司を作るのは久しぶりだったので、Youtubeで作り方を何度も確認してから作りました。
ちなみにドイツに住んでいる日本人はスモークサーモンを使ってお寿司を作ることが多いようです。
次回はスモークサーモンを使って作ってみたいと思います。

カリフォルニアロールを作りました（I made California rolls！）

I'm still learning how to do this podcasting thing, but I'm trying to share my words anyway. I speak quite quickly in this episode... Sorry! I will try to speak slower next time. 

There's a question for you to answer at the end - in audio or written form - so if you have 10 minutes to listen, and then 5 minutes to answer the question that end -- why not GIVE IT A GO?! (which is another way of saying -  GO FOR IT! DO IT!) You have nothing to lose and lots to gain!

Using your words to speak about things that matter to you - that mean something to you - is a great way to create output and use your English. If you don't want to answer my question - you could try writing freely for 5 minutes. Or you could speak into your phone and talk about how you're doing/feeling today - or what's on your mind. It may feel strange, at first, and that's normal! But over time, speaking or writing - just for yourself - will start to feel good - and it's a WONDERFUL habit to start to build.

2. What did you (really) want to "be" (or do for work) - when you were a child/kid?

Japanese daily life podcast のAtsushiです。
このPodcastは、日本語を勉強しているみなさんに向けたPodcastです。


今僕たちは、アジア旅行に来ています。
約1か月の旅行です。
4つの国に行く予定です。

シンガポール
マレーシア
ベトナム
タイ

です。


今日までシンガポールにいました。
今回のPodcastでは、シンガポールの良いところがたくさんあったのでその話をします！

いろいろあるんですけど、5つあげます。


・安心
　日本と同じように安心感がありました。いろんな場所を歩きましたが、危険を感じることはありませんでした。
モールの中には日本の店がたくさんありました。
それも安心感の1つでした。

・電車がわかりやすい
　電車のlineが多くないので、わかりやすいです。
日本の電車がなになに線というのが多いので、日本人は外国の電車を理解するのが早いかもしれない、と思いました。
1度使うと覚えられるので、滞在中は何度も利用しました。

・食べ物がおいしい
　シンガポールの食べ物はとてもおいしかったです。
食べ物編のPodcastも作る予定です。
個人的には、ダンプリング、日本だと餃子ですね。
あとはバクテーもおいしかったです。

・意外と涼しい
　これは意外でした。
きっと日本よりも暑いだろうと覚悟していました。
ですが、思っていたよりも暑くなかったです。
湿度もそんなに変わらないと思いますが、日本のむし暑い感じはなかったです。
雨のあとは少し涼しくなるし、天気が変わりやすいので、曇っている時間も多かったからかもしれません。

・周りを気にせず生活している
　これは習慣的なところですね。
日本で生活していると、周りからの視線を感じたりしますが、シンガポールではそれはもちろんありませんでした。
シンガポールの人たちも、周りのことをいい意味で気にしていないように感じました。日本人は少し気楽に感じるかもしれません。

違う国にいくと、いろんなことに気づくことができて楽しいですね。

日本の良いところにも気づいたので、そのPodcastも作りますね。
