Description
F is a small sound in big words: "fine", "five", "first", "free", "office", "coffee", "after", "phone". Many Indian languages did not originally have the English F, and many Indian scripts write a breathy P with letters that look like "PH". As a result, some speakers say F as a P with a puff of air, and others say it with both lips, like blowing out a candle. What you will learn: • What english F is • F said as a breathy P ("PH") • F said with both lips • Pairs that can sound close • F in the middle and at the end • Words spelled with PH • Many speakers use a clear F • Practice: decode the sentence • Listening strategies • Self-check questions to test your ear Level: B1–B2. Self-study: listen, then take the quizzes. Audio voiced with AI from an original script by Dr. Rashmi R Nair.
