Dear Sir/Madam I am writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with some advertisements broadcasted in a specific time-slot destined to children’s programMes. We were shocked to find out that currently there is any filter in order to protect young spectators. As the channel may be aware, there are issues with the kind of advertising that you are showing such as toys and all sorts of products ads. If advertising is persuasion, it is unnecessary; if it is information then it is useful. We should clearly distinguish it in order to avoid kids manipulation. According to ASA (the UK’s independent regulator for advertising across all media) the vast majority of advertisements, direct marketing and promotions should be regulated by the government. Going forward, I would suggest you make sure to look into the matter in depth, ensuring to comply with the rules set out in the Advertising Codes, with the aim of not committing an offense. If these recommendations are implemented, the current situation with children’ protection will definitely improve.
