Chinese idiom: 刻舟求剑
One day, a man of the state of Chu was sitting in a boat to cross the river. All of a sudden, his sword fell into the water by accident. The man immediately made a mark on the side of a boat with a small knife. "This is where my sword dropped. As soon as the boat stopped, I will jump down from here to retrieve my sword", he said.
After the boat stopped at the opposite bank, the man got into the water to look for his sword from the place which he had marked on the boat.
However, since the boat had moved, while the sword had not, this method of locating his sword turned out to be unsuccessful.
