That's Ok but I would probably say "I had a tear in my eye while watching it" or "It brought a tear to my eye".
You could also say "Watching it had me in tears" or "I was in tears watching it" but be careful there because depending on the wider context that could mean it was extremely sad or extremely funny.
And to be honest I would probably say "I had a lump in my throat after watching it" or "Watching it brought a lump to my throat" - stronger than saying "I had a tear in my eye".
