Should the phrases "a lot of" and "lots of" be used only on casual occasions although I have seen them often on articles or books.
Some people say that "a lot of" and "lots of" are more 「casual」than "many" and supposedly "much".
There are so many other phrases for large number or quantity of things.
It's not clear to me if I we should use those mentioned phrases only at casual occasions or what ?

I received lots of business emails containing "a lot of" or "lots of" so you can use them formally
